I had a friend from high school die about four months ago, she was killed in a car accident. Today, like everyday I checked out my Facebook page and saw that a few friends had birthdays today, I sent them my well wishes and noticed that my friend who had passed did also.

I was taken aback when I saw this. I figure either she had something that did it automatically or someone else had access to her account and was doing it. Either way I was creeped out by this. But as I looked at her page I saw that people are still posting on it, still sending condolences and still sending her messages. Most of them are from her kids, but not all.

After reading some of these, I no longer felt creeped out, I almost felt comforted. Is this one of the ways we are going to be remembered in the digital age? I'm not sure what my feelings are on this topic, I think it's too soon to make a definitive decision, but to be remembered by more than your direct family and too have them put out there for all to see is heart warming and I think it speaks volumes of that person and those she left behind.

New Blog App

Since I am a terrible blogger and I want to be more creative, I decided to try to find a blogging app for my phone. I wanted to be able to write when I felt inspired or when there was something I wanted to say, since normally by the time I got to the computer to put it in writing the urge was gone.

I tried a few different ones out with my Android phone, but I didn't find any that I really liked, that and the phone itself was a pooch.

I was able to switch phones this last month and jumped on the fanboy band wagon and got an iPhone. I love it. I also have found a good blogging app that I like and I will hopefully write more.

Another Year of the Same?

I must be having a bad day. For a change I have gotten to spend most of it alone, which is a more than welcome reprieve in this chaos we call a house. But it has got me thinking about some things.

Is it going to be another year of the same? Are any of us going to learn from the last year and years, and not repeat the same mistakes? While I do hope we do, I get the feeling that we won't. Myself included.

There are so many things that I want to do and say, I don't know where to begin, or go about initiating any of it, if that makes any sense. I work so much that I think I truly hate my job. I have some goals for this year, short term and long term, like getting this money pit we call a house sold. (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER). To getting my garage cleaned up. Where to begin?

Calgon, take me away.

Starting Anew

I read a bit of what the President had to say about some of the technology and gadgets that most of us have readily embraced and made part of our daily lives, and I have to say that I don't totally disagree with all of his comments.

"You're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank all that high on the truth meter," Obama said at Hampton University, Virginia.

"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, -- non e of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation,"

But in the context of the named gadgets, they are what they are, which is mostly entertainment. Xboxs and Playstations are first and foremost video game consoles. The quintessential mp3 player, the iPod, all are for the purpose of entertainment. Then there are the iPhone (and other smart phones) and the iPad, etc. Multipurpose portable devices. While were at it don't forget about personal computers. They are all just tools of one type or another. Who hasn't seen their Mother use a butter knife as a screwdriver? Mine sure did (huh Dad?). People will use these gadgets for whatever purpose they see fit, that is why God gave us freewill and the Government The Constitution.

In my opinion as a society, we are pretty much screwed. Our future is going to end up as either Idiocracy or Wall-E, or a combination of the two.

Joe Bauers, an Army librarian, is judged to be absolutely average in every regard, has no relatives, has no future, so he's chosen to be one of the two test subjects in a top-secret hibernation program. He and hooker Rita were to awaken in one year, but things go wrong and they wake up instead in 2505.
